How to PREVENT Dry cracked Lips

Raise your hands if you suffer from dry cracked lips in the winter? I suffer from dry lips but my boyfriend gets quite bad cracked lips and its horrible. There are a few ways to prevent getting dry lips, which some people may not know, so I thought id write down a few things to help at lease once person out there, Here it goes....

1. Use a lip Balm such as a chapstick to promote healing and prevention of chapped lips.

2.  Another view point, as the reason for  ''chapstick addiction'' is this - Lip balms like chapsticks lubricate but they do not hydrate. This is a critical difference as people apply chapsticks constantly to dehydrated lips because it makes them feel soft and smooth, which they take to mean moisturised. But lip balms do not hydrate. It actually seals moisture out so that lips cannot absorb moisture from the air, the water we drink or from hydrating formulas applied to lips. We wax a car and it feels shiny and smooth but what does the wax do? it seals out water rolls of like a ducks back, better bet is to use a product like products with Shea, emu butter, vitamin E Oil, which are designed to introduce moisture back into the lips.

3. Ensure your body is not deficient in B Vitamins, iron or essential fatty acids. These deficiencies can cause scaling lips and cracking of lip corners.

4. The main one of course is to drink loads of water, which of course if you don't drink enough it causes dehydration on the lips.

5. If in spite of water intake your lips seem dehydrated, apply a cool wet cloth to hydrate your lips.

6. Dont lick your lips it will cause more chapping, it doesn't moisturise them, I'm sure we are all guilty of this.

7. Do not try to pick or bite your lips, biting the lip removes their protective covering which causes further drying.

8. Use a soft toothbrush so softly buff your lips to remove the deposit of dead cells that will cause more drying and flaking.

9. Creamy lipsticks can act like balms to prevent your lips from chapping, Try and avoid lipsticks that can dry out your lips.

10. Vaseline works wonders.

  1. Good tips! When I go all day at work without having much to drink my lips become so hydrated! I'm also a lip balm addict, I feel like I'm doing good but, in the long run, I should probably invest in some Vaseline!
